Residential Interior Design in the US and Europe
In the interior design of a country house located near Chicago, the designers from OLT DESIGN were on a mission from the clients to capture that “real American style” — a unique fusion of various designer vibes, colors, and textures to give it the utmost intriguing and refined look, just like how America blends countless cultures.
Since this house is meant for a family’s weekend getaway, where they recharge for the new week in the big city, the designers also aimed to underscore that feeling of being one with nature.
This house sits close to a lake, right in the middle of a garden. Big windows bring in fantastic natural light, and those high ceilings create a sense of freedom and space. To pull off a smooth transition from the garden to the living spaces, the interior embraces a palette of natural materials (wood, glass, metal, stone), leaning heavily into those natural tones.

Classic Kitchen
A minimalist yet incredibly spacious kitchen with a dining area, all done up in classic American style: the ceiling adorned entirely with wood, and the walls and furniture are decorated with moldings and pilasters. The kitchen features two stylish islands, adorned with marble — one for cooking, and the other, surrounded by bar stools, for mixing cocktails or entertaining. In a separate zone with large windows, a dining table is placed. Vintage rugs and a dish cabinet add a special charm to the room.
Vibrant Lounge
The open space of the kitchen smoothly transitions into the living room. In this room, there are also light walls and a wooden ceiling, but the atmosphere is entirely different. Surrounding the brick-adorned fireplace are furniture and decor items featuring a kaleidoscope of colors, textures, and geometries. A brown Mobilidea sofa contrasts with a white Cassina armchair, fur texture opposes leather and raffia weaving, and the softness of the sofa counteracts the precise lines of the lamp and coffee table. An intense abstract painting ‘The Bright and Shiny Print’ by Sandy Welch emotionally amplifies the space, creating a backdrop for conversation. Each item has its own story, its own voice, and these voices intertwine in a splendid symphony of interior design.
Bedroom with Metallic Gleam
The dominant color in the room is a gentle green, seamlessly blending the space with the view outside the window. To preserve American classical elements, the ceiling is adorned with wooden rafters. To infuse a contemporary touch and create a cozy atmosphere, OLT DESIGN interior designers meticulously selected lighting fixtures and decor elements, among them: a woven leather chair, a metallic coffee table, and a tripod lamp form a dedicated reading nook. Across from the bed, an unusually shaped mirror on the wall and a wooden dresser in an arch made of natural stone add to the room’s unique character. A floristic rug in the bed area evokes the feeling of being in a garden, with tropical birds almost ready to take flight.
Bold Character Bathroom
The combination of colors and materials takes on a new dimension in the bathroom, where the floor is adorned with four shades of marble. The bathroom features a shower cabin and a standalone bathtub. Through a large matte window, natural light floods the space, seamlessly merging with artificial lighting in different areas of the room in the evening.
